SYSNET International participated in the IHE North American Connectathon this past January with the goal of testing OpenEMPI against the IHE PIX/PDQ profiles. We are pleased to announce that OpenEMPI successfully passed all the tests and is now certified for the PIX/PDQ profiles and for both the HL7v2 and HL7v3 implementations of the profiles. IHE is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical need in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.

Connectathons are held annually in Asia, Europe and North America. During the Connectathon, systems exchange information with complementary systems from multiple vendors, performing all of the transactions required for the roles they have selected, called IHE Actors, in support of defined clinical use cases, called IHE Profiles. Thousands of vendor-to-vendor connections have been tested overall, and tens of thousands of transactions passed among the systems tested.
